Gaslighting AI

🤔 Can we make our AI outputs better by "gaslighting" the models?

If that sounds too negative, how about this:

🤔 Can we "harness the power of emotional intelligence to enrich AI outputs?"

Either way, the answer to both seems to be yes.

In the study linked below, researchers added emotionally motivating phrases to regular prompts, such as "This is really important to me." Adding emotion seemed to get the AI's attention and help it focus, kind of like when teachers tell students, "This is important for the test!".

When researchers tested six different AI models like ChatGPT on 45 different tasks, ranging from easy stuff like spelling to harder logic puzzles, adding emotion improved the AI's performance on almost every task.

👉 For example, on a set of logic puzzles, the prompts boosted scores by 115%. Combining multiple emotional phrases worked even better, like telling the AI, "This is vital; please be confident in your answer."

The takeaway? Emotional intelligence helps AI models just like it helps humans - more emotion-driven prompts give the AI a pep talk or confidence boost, and as a result, it performs better.
